The New Key to Freedom at Sight Village in the UK

By: Serotek Corp.

Summary:
Press Release from Serotek Corp.
Dated: JULY 19, 2005

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Minneapolis, Minn. -- In July 2003, Serotek Corp. revolutionized the meaning of portable accessibility technology for people who are blind. Today, at Sight Village in Birmingham, England, the company will introduce the second generation of that technology -- improving on its own original product while breaking ground with a whole new concept as well.

Like its predecessor, Key to Freedom Version 2.2 can plug into any Windows XP or 2000 based computer anywhere and provide instant access through synthesized speech even if the computer is not connected to the Internet. Unlike any other product in the world, however, this new version leaves no trace of itself on any system, requires no sighted assistance, and even provides the user with storage space for downloading articles, spreadsheets, music, programs or other files from the Internet, local computer, and even home -- right onto the device itself.

"The secret is Serotek's exclusive AutoRun Anywhere technology which interfaces directly with the operating system and directs the computer to execute the software embedded on our second generation Key to Freedom," said Mike Calvo, Serotek's CEO. "Other technologies require that you log on as administrator to set up the computer for recognizing the portable drive or pen. This can be seen as a huge security risk, especially for public access computers in libraries and public buildings. We don't worry if the computer's owner knows about accessibility or not. We make the accessibility travel with the user instead of depending on the system's owner to install any software to enable accessibility. Our technology allows you to simply plug in the key and access the computer -- even if it's not connected to the Internet, even on guest accounts. There is no security breach or risk. You just make this computer yours for however long the Key to Freedom is plugged in. Unplug it and it's as if you hadn't been there."

This single flash drive (sometimes called a thumb drive because it is about the size of a thumb) gives the user System Access to any PC running Windows 2000 or XP, and its resident programs, including various Microsoft Office applications, as well as access to email, the Internet, and the growing collection of news, entertainment, and more on the FreedomBox Network. Go to the library, an Internet cafᅢᄅ, or your brother-in-law's house and have instant access to the computer by plugging in your tiny Key to Freedom.

"We're delighted that other companies are following our pattern of developing products that enable the user to carry access to the computer rather than being tied to one particular computer," Calvo said. "We're also delighted that we're able to offer far more power at half the price of any other product on the market with our second generation of The Key to Freedom."

See the new Key to Freedom and the amazing array of other FreedomBox products July 19-21 at Sight Village, Edgbaston, Birmingham, England at the Computer Room Services booth (Hall A).
