2010 INTERNSHIP APPLICATION
Lighthouse International is working in partnership with a variety of New York City based corporations to provide internships for students who are visually impaired.Students interested in applying for internships through Lighthouse International must meet the following criteria:
- Be a full-time undergraduate student (entering their junior or senior year) or graduate student, with a visual impairment;
- Have a B average or better;
- Be a U.S. citizen or have a right-to-work permit; and
- Be able to supply their own living arrangements in New York City.
Applications submitted on, or before, November 15, 2009, will receive early consideration. After that date, applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis.
Please note that your application is not a guarantee of an internship. Placement is based on the identification of a company's interest in your application. Should an internship match be made, the student assumes all cost for travel and securing room and board during the internship period.
Instructions: How to Apply
- Fill out and submit our online preliminary application, which includes:
- Contact and education information; and
- Two essay questions.
If you have not already prepared your answers off-line, we recommend that you do so. Use the list of application questions and copy them to a file on your computer. Then return here and enter your answers.
- Scan and attach the following information in either a JPEG (.jpg) or a PDF (.pdf) file format, via one (1) email to internship@lighthouse.org:
- Current resume;
- Statement from an ophthalmologist, optometrist or State Rehabilitation Agency which provides documentation verifying current legal blindness or vision impairment.
- Any recent transcript and letter of acceptance into chosen school or study program that documents academic record and current school status.
- Please make sure two (2) recommendations are submitted for you via Recommendation Form. Or scan two (2) letters of recommendation from people other than family members and include in your e-mail.
